New Delhi, March 14 (IANS). The government said on Saturday that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders has been resumed for industries in many states of the country. It was also clarified that there is no news of any shortage of LPG at retail outlets in the country.

Giving information on the current fuel situation, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing and Oil Refinery) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said that the government has decided that the supply of LPG to commercial consumers will also continue.

He said that in some states, commercial LPG cylinders are being supplied directly to the industries to meet the needs of the industries.

This decision is expected to provide relief to business establishments and industries, especially the restaurant and hospitality sectors.

Sujata Sharma said that despite the current geopolitical circumstances, there is no report of any fuel shortage in the country. He also appealed to the people not to panic and book more LPG and said that there is enough LPG available in the country.

He reiterated that despite the increase in bookings, the government is continuously monitoring the situation and ensuring supply of LPG to both domestic and commercial consumers.

Meanwhile, sources said that after the safe passage of two LPG ships through the Strait of Hormuz, more LPG tankers are now ready to transit the war-torn region as Iran has allowed safe passage to Indian flagged ships.

There are currently 28 Indian flagged ships operating in the Persian Gulf region, and all ships and crew are continuously monitored for their safety.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is also continuously monitoring the maritime situation in the Persian Gulf region and monitoring and preparedness have been further strengthened in view of the changing conditions.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important sea routes, passing through approximately 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas exports.

Meanwhile, two oil tankers ‘Shivalik’ and ‘Nanda Devi’ are also going to reach India in the next few days. Both these ships are owned by the government company Shipping Corporation of India Limited and are being monitored and guided by the Indian Navy for safe passage through the sensitive maritime area.
