US President Donald Trump has issued a strong statement regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran. Trump claimed that America has so far resolved eight wars across the world and is now on the verge of winning another one. This statement of Trump has come at a time when tension with Iran in the Middle East has reached its peak. America has been continuously saying that it is moving forward with full force in this conflict and Iran is ready to make an agreement, although it is not able to accept this openly.
Trump claims: We will win the 9th war by defeating Iran
Speaking to the media in Washington, Trump said, “We have solved eight wars. We are winning another war. What we are doing in the Middle East with Iran is like no one has ever seen before.” Trump further said that Iran is negotiating and very eager to reach a deal, but its leaders are afraid to admit this publicly. Trump commented, “They’re so desperate to make a deal, but they’re afraid their own people will kill them. They’re also afraid *we* might kill them. There has never been a leader of any country who wants his seat as little as the current leader of Iran.”
What was Iran’s reaction to Trump’s claims?
Just hours before Trump made these claims, Iran had completely rejected Pakistan’s mediation efforts. Tehran said that no talks are going on at present and it stands by its conditions. Iran’s demands include the closure of all US military bases in the Gulf region, full compensation for all damage caused during the conflict, full control of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of any restrictions on its missile program. However, Iran has not yet given any direct response to this specific statement by Trump. Meanwhile, the conflict continues without any interruption. Today, Hezbollah fired more than 30 rockets at the Haifa-Nahriya area. Iran launched drone strikes targeting Israeli aerospace facilities, while Israel attacked Shiraz airport. Apart from this, there were once again reports of explosions at a US military base in Bahrain. Anwar Gargash, an adviser to the UAE government, said his country needs concrete support, not just verbal assurances.
What impact will this have on India?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to President Trump over phone yesterday, and appealed to him to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and secure, and also sought early restoration of peace. Reliance has purchased 5 million barrels of oil from Iran, taking advantage of the 30-day waiver given by the US. India is fully alert about its oil supply and the safety of its citizens. Yesterday, Trump also sent Iran a 15-point peace plan—which includes conditions such as a month-long ceasefire and halting its nuclear program—but Iran has rejected these proposals as baseless. This statement of Trump has come at a time when oil prices remain high and the whole world is waiting for this conflict to end as soon as possible.
