Bengaluru, 16 September (IANS). India has emerged as a leader in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Asia Pacific region. According to a report on Tuesday, more than half of adults from the metros are actively using generative AI this year.

Statistics compiled by Forester suggest that 56 percent of Indians living in cities are using generative AI tools in 2025, which is more than 44 percent in 2024, leading India to become a pioneer in the region.

The report shows that Indian consumers are not only adopting AI rapidly, but their level of knowledge on AI globally is the highest.

About 63 percent of Indian adults say that they understand AI better, while in Australia the same figure is only 18 percent and 26 percent in Singapore.

Only 5 percent of Indians said that they do not understand AI, which is the lowest percentage worldwide.

Millennials have the highest knowledge about AI in groups of different ages, with about 69 percent of people have a deep understanding of AI.

However, a confidence in research has also emerged. While 45 percent of Indian AI consider AI a serious threat to the society, about 66 percent of the people who know about AI believe that the information received from AI can be trusted.

This indicates how more awareness about AI brings both caution and confidence.

For example, 64 percent of Indian consumers rely on AI-Powered Language Translation Service, which is more than Australia’s 27 percent and Singapore’s 38 percent.

Indians have the most rely on the management of AI risks on long -established companies and large technical firms, of which 58 percent trust these companies.

Highly regulated institutions such as banks are also relieved. This belief level is much higher than Australia and Singapore, where private companies usually instill less trust.

“India’s AI landscape presents an important combination of high adoption, better understanding and practical doubtism,” said Forester’s lead analyst Vasupradha Srinivasan.

Srinivasan further said, “Indian consumers are intelligent users who understand both AI’s ability and risk. This creates an environment where transparency, safety and reliability become competitive powers for enterprises.”
