Military activity between America and Iran has intensified in the waters of the Middle East. Amidst some reports circulating on social media, the US Navy has clarified that their presence has become stronger in this area. It was claimed in the news that American warships were returning from there, but according to defense sources, the situation is completely different. At present, the American fleet is being more active than ever in the Arabian Sea and its surrounding areas and security arrangements have been further tightened.

What is the official information about USS Abraham Lincoln?
USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is an active aircraft carrier and is currently in full service with the Navy. In March 2026, the US Army has released new pictures of this warship which confirm its active status. The retirement program organized on this ship in the year 2024 was only for individual personnel and not to retire the entire ship. The US Navy’s USS Nimitz ship is included in the retirement list, which has no connection with the current status of USS Abraham Lincoln. Recently, there was news of an American sailor getting injured during flight operations on this warship, which confirms its continuous operation.
Current strength and status of US forces around Iran
According to the report of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), at least 10 American warships were deployed in the maritime areas near Iran by February 2026. These include the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and many other guided missile destroyers. The Pentagon is now seriously considering sending another aircraft carrier, the USS George HW Bush, to the region. Although some Iranian media reports in late February said that American ships were retreating, the American command has refuted these claims and has continued to maintain its presence. Maritime security remains an important topic for expatriates and travelers living in the Gulf countries as it directly impacts trade routes and flights.
