New Delhi/Doha, April 10 (IANS). India and Qatar have reiterated their commitment to further strengthen their strategic relations in important areas such as trade, energy and cultural cooperation. The decision came when Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri held high-level meetings during his two-day official visit to Doha.
Puri arrived in Doha on April 9 and met Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy and Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, President and CEO of Qatar Energy. During this, both sides reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations.
The meeting discussed issues such as high-level contacts, trade and investment opportunities, energy cooperation, cultural ties and people-to-people ties, reflecting the depth of the India-Qatar partnership.
According to the ministry, the two leaders held detailed talks on enhancing cooperation in all these areas and agreed to work towards further strengthening relations in the future.
Both countries expressed hope that peace and stability would soon be restored in the region and talked about further taking bilateral relations forward.
During this, Puri, on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave a message of good wishes and solidarity to Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
He also referred to the telephone conversation between Prime Minister Modi and the Emir of Qatar in March 2026, in which both the leaders emphasized on dialogue and diplomacy to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Modi had also expressed his gratitude for the support being received by the Indian community living in Qatar.
During the meeting, both the ministers expressed hope for early restoration of peace in the region and agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Al-Kaabi reiterated Qatar’s commitment to India as a reliable energy partner and stressed continued cooperation in the energy sector.
The two leaders welcomed the two-week ceasefire announced on April 8 and stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted flow of global energy supplies.
He also stressed the need to maintain freedom of sea lanes and smooth functioning of global trade so that supply chains remain stable.
Puri thanked the Government of Qatar for the hospitality he received and both sides agreed to remain in touch in the coming weeks and pursue common interests.
