New Delhi, April 22 (IANS). Purnia Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav is facing all-round opposition for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women, with leaders from both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and opposition camps expressing similar views.
Bihar State Women Commission has already issued a notice to Yadav in this regard and asked him to file a reply within three days.
Responding to Yadav’s remarks, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad said, “I do not want to indulge in this kind of thinking. I and my party believe that where women are worshipped, God resides there.”
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal demanded termination of his Lok Sabha membership.
Khandelwal told IANS, “The words used by Pappu Yadav were so shameful that I feel ashamed even repeating them. This is our country, where women are worshiped in the form of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kali and many others. The Lok Sabha Speaker should take cognizance of the words used by him for women.”
Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “Such people should not be spared, no matter which party they belong to. Strict action should be taken against them by the police and the Central and State Women’s Commissions. Such people should be put in jail forever.”
Congress Maharashtra MLA Vijay Wadettiwar said, “Using such inappropriate language against women is unforgivable. Whoever the leader is, if he uses such language, action should be taken against him; this is the Congress’ stand.”
JDU MLA Shalini Mishra said, “Whatever he said reflects his mentality. Condemning it would be too small a thing. He has insulted not only the women of Bihar, but the women of the entire country. He should apologise; otherwise, all of us women will come out on the streets to protest.”
Meanwhile, the Purnia MP addressed a press conference to clarify on his comments.
She said, “Women who have progressed through their hard work, whether they are doctors or engineers, should come forward. Today 90 percent of the women in India are supporting our cause. When such a large number of women are standing with us, then what is there to fear?”
She added, “We didn’t take anyone’s name; we talked about all women in general. We also said that the remaining 10 percent are good people too. Then why were you so hurt?”
