The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday issued a statement on the recent ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed hope that this agreement will establish lasting peace in West Asia.

The Foreign Ministry said, “We welcome the ceasefire and hope that it will lead to lasting peace in West Asia. As we have said many times before, de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy are necessary to end the current conflict as soon as possible. This conflict has caused immense suffering to the people and has disrupted global energy supplies and trade networks. We hope that the Strait of Hormuz will continue to have unimpeded navigation and the flow of global trade.”

Earlier, US President Donald Trump suspended the “bombing and attack” campaign on Iran, announced a two-way ceasefire for two weeks and said Iran’s 10-point proposal is practical.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the ten-point proposal would form the basis of negotiations for a permanent agreement, while reiterating that the US has achieved most of its military objectives.

Trump said, “Based on my conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, in which they urged me to stop the devastating attack being launched on Iran tonight, and on the condition that Iran agrees to fully, immediately and safely open the Strait of Hormuz, I have agreed to suspend the bombing and attack on Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a two-way ceasefire.”

He added, “The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all military objectives, and are well on our way toward a definitive agreement on long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East. We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and we believe that is a practical basis for negotiations.”

Trump said Iran has agreed to almost all disputed points in the past, and the extension would provide time to finalize a permanent agreement.

Iran accepted US President Donald Trump’s peace proposal and agreed to secure transit through the Strait of Hormuz as well as a pause in military operations for two weeks.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi posted the Islamic Republic’s response on Twitter, saying it would halt its military operations if Iran was not attacked.

Araghchi wrote, “In view of the United States’ request for negotiations based on its 15-point proposal and the US President’s declaration of acceptance of the general framework of Iran’s 10-point proposal as the basis for negotiations, I, on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, declare: If attacks on Iran are stopped, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations. For a period of two weeks, the coordination and technical limitations of Iran’s armed forces will be suspended. “With this in mind, safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible.”

Talks will be held in Islamabad on Friday between the Iranian side led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and the US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance.
