Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to his Nepali counterpart Sushila Karki and confirmed India’s strong support for his efforts to restore peace and stability.
In a post on X, Modi said that during a conversation with Karki, he expressed his heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of recent life during violent protests in the neighboring country.
Modi said, “Nepal’s interim government had a warm conversation with Prime Minister Smt. Sushila Karki. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the recent tragic loss of life and confirmed India’s strong support for her efforts to restore peace and stability.”
He said, “In addition, I wish him and the people of Nepal on their national day tomorrow.”
Violent protests took place in Nepal last week, due to which Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was removed from the post.
During this movement led by the Gen-Z group, the protesters set fire to the homes of political leaders, important government buildings, business establishments and shopping complexes.
Karki took over as Prime Minister of the interim government on 12 September.
