New Delhi, April 24 (IANS). Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the driver onboarding campaign of Bharat Taxi in Mumbai. This step is considered important towards strengthening urban transport and improving the livelihood of drivers.

Hundreds of auto-rickshaw and cab drivers, transport union representatives and members of cooperative societies participated in the event.

Goyal said that cooperative and technology-based models will play an important role in strengthening India’s changing transportation system.

He said that Bharat Taxi engages drivers as partners and provides them transparency, better earnings and dignified work opportunities through digital tools.

The minister also said that such models will determine the direction of future urban transportation.

According to the Ministry of Cooperation, the initiative aims to increase access to digital platforms, improve transparency and create better earning opportunities for drivers.

This onboarding campaign is part of a broader plan to strengthen driver-centric mobility systems in big cities.

The initiative strives to create a sustainable and inclusive system for drivers and passengers by ensuring simplified onboarding processes, better operations and consistent demand for rides.

Mumbai now joins the list of cities like Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Chandigarh and Lucknow, where organized mobility networks are growing rapidly.

Vivek Pandey, COO of Bharat Taxi, said that Mumbai is a big and promising market and the support of the driver unions here is very encouraging for the company’s expansion.

As per recent data, the platform has more than 5.17 lakh drivers associated with it, more than 50 lakh customers and around 10 lakh rides being completed every month.

According to the ministry, this expansion is in line with Amit Shah’s vision of taking Bharat Taxi to all major cities of the country in the next three years, and Mumbai is an important step in this direction.
