Washington, April 25 (IANS). US President Donald Trump will send a special envoy to Pakistan to hold talks with Iran. White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said that there have been some positive signs recently.
Levitt said the President has decided to send Special Envoys Woff and Jared Kushner back to Islamabad. He also said that Iran wants to talk, and it wants to talk face to face.
He further told that that is why Steve and Jared will go to Pakistan, so that they can listen to Iran. President Trump has always believed that “diplomacy should be given a chance.”
According to Levitt, some progress has been seen from Iran in the past few days, although he did not clarify whether Tehran has made any unified proposal ahead of the talks.
Senior leadership in Washington, including the President, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will remain in the US and await further information. The Vice President has been kept on “standby” and can also be sent to Pakistan if needed.
These statements have come at a time when diplomatic activities are intense in the Middle East. Levitt also confirmed the extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, calling it “another major success for the world and the United States.”
“We are grateful to both Israel and Lebanon that they have decided together to continue negotiations,” he said. He also expressed hope that in future the leaders of both the countries can also be invited to Washington.
