New Delhi, April 29 (IANS). The sex ratio in India has improved at the national level, indicating better survival of girls. This figure has increased from 904 in 2017-19 to 917 in 2021-23. The government gave this information on Wednesday.

The government released ‘Women and Men in India 2025: Selected Indicators and Data’ in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. According to the official statement, its objective is to provide gender-disaggregated data on various topics, so that the changing gender inequalities and development trends can be understood in depth.

The publication states that between 2008 and 2023, there has been a significant and sustained decline in infant mortality rates for both girls and boys.

The gross enrollment ratio in higher education has increased from 28.5 to 30.2 for females and from 28.3 to 28.9 for males between 2021-22 to 2022-23.

Labor force participation of people aged 15 years and above has registered an increase for both males and females. The largest increase was seen among rural women, where it increased from 37.5 percent to 45.9 percent between 2022 and 2025.

Between 2017 and 2025, the number of men working in managerial positions increased by 73.80 percent, while the number of women working in managerial positions increased by 102.54 percent during the same period.

The publication compiles indicators related to population, education, health, economic participation, decision-making, violence against women and other gender issues, a statement from the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation said. For this, data received from various ministries, departments and organizations has been used.

This publication analyzes key socio-economic indicators and highlights emerging trends to provide policy makers, researchers and other stakeholders with useful evidence that will help in formulating gender-sensitive policies and programs for inclusive and sustainable development.

Additionally, it also provides metadata information on 50 key indicators to clarify concepts, definitions, sources and methodology. This publication is available on the official website of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation.
