Islamabad, May 7 (IANS). Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed deep concern and displeasure over the news of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Begum Bushra Bibi being secretly taken to the hospital on Wednesday night and then sent back to jail. The party alleged that there is a lack of transparency in the entire matter and it indicates violation of human rights.
According to media reports, Bushra Bibi, lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, was taken to the hospital under tight security. It was told that it was for his eye checkup and follow-up treatment. Last month, he had undergone surgery in his right eye due to retina detachment problem.
According to Pakistan’s leading English daily Dawn, PTI raised the question that if his health had deteriorated so much that he had to be taken to the hospital at midnight, then why are the government and jail authorities not informing the public about it. The party asked which hospital he was taken to, which tests were conducted and which doctors examined him.
The party says that Bushra Bibi has been facing solitary confinement, mental pressure and inhuman treatment for the last several months. PTI alleged that he was not being allowed to meet his personal doctors and was being hindered from meeting his family.
PTI demanded that an independent and transparent medical report on Bushra Bibi’s health condition be made public. There has also been a demand to give immediate access to his personal doctors and permission to meet his family. The party demanded his immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital.
Party president Gauhar Ali Khan also said in the social media platform Warned that if there is any harm to Bushra Bibi’s health, the full political, moral and legal responsibility will be on the government and the jail administration.
