Special news. Chennai
Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Saturday and staked claim to form the government. The special thing is that Vijay has met the Governor for the fourth time in four consecutive days. Earlier, Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi (VCK) announced support to Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), after which Vijay-led TVK reached the required majority mark to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
Let us tell you that voting was held in one phase on April 23 for all 234 assembly seats of Tamil Nadu. The elections saw a tough contest between DMK, AIADMK, NTK and TVK. Counting of votes took place on 4 May, with TVK emerging as the largest party with 108 seats, but falling short of the majority mark. After this, intense political activities started regarding government formation and TVK started talks with many parties and independent MLAs to garner support.
First Congress supported Vijay, after which CPI and CPI(M) also announced their support to TVK. Now after the support of VCK and IUML, TVK is claiming to have the support of 120 MLAs.
According to sources, Vijay had sought an early meeting with Governor Arlekar as he was likely to leave for Kerala soon. It is believed that in this meeting, letters of support from allies and MLAs were handed over and a formal claim for government formation was presented.
Later TVK general secretary Aadhav Arjun, while showing the support letter in front of the media, claimed that Vijay would soon take oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. After these developments, there is an atmosphere of celebration among TVK supporters across the state, while the eyes of political circles are now fixed on the next action of Raj Bhavan. –
