New Delhi, May 20 (IANS). National President of Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda addressed the 79th World Health Assembly going on in Geneva, Switzerland.
J.P. Posting on the social media platform ‘X’, Nadda reiterated his unwavering commitment towards India’s health policies and global health. “Addressed the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva and expressed India’s unwavering commitment towards Universal Health Coverage, digital health innovation and global health solidarity,” he wrote.
He said that inspired by the ‘whole of government’ and ‘whole of society’ approach, India is rapidly expanding affordable, accessible and quality health services to all citizens.
Making special mention of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Nadda said that under this mission, unique digital health IDs have now been issued to more than 880 million Indians. This digital ecosystem has played an important role in making healthcare services seamless, integrated and transparent. Patients’ medical history, medicines, reports and treatment information are now available at a single click, improving both the efficiency and quality of healthcare delivery.
In the dialogue, Nadda also emphasized on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said that the development of AI should be ethical, inclusive and human-centric. AI should be used to provide equitable and reliable healthcare globally, not limited to just a few.
Reiterating India’s role as the ‘pharmacy of the world’, Nadda highlighted the country’s leadership in producing affordable generic drugs and vaccines. Recalling India’s contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that under the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative, India provided approximately 300 million vaccine doses to nearly 100 countries, reflecting the nation’s unwavering commitment towards global health cooperation and solidarity.
He concluded his address by saying, “In the spirit of solidarity, let this Assembly move forward in translating policies into concrete results and shared responsibility for a healthy future for all.”
