Lord Ganesha is worshiped as the personification of wisdom, prosperity and remover of obstacles. Among the things which have special importance in their worship, Durva (grass) is considered to have the most prominent place. Often devotees offer Durva to Lord Ganesha, but there is a deep mythological story and spiritual meaning hidden behind it.
🕉️ Mythology of Analasura demon
According to religious beliefs, in ancient times a demon named Analasur was extremely powerful and destructive. Wherever he went, he spread fire and destruction. All the gods and sages became troubled due to his terror.
To get relief from this crisis, all the gods praised Lord Ganesha. Ganpati Bappa swallowed Analasur in his huge form and absorbed his immense fire and heat within himself. But the fire energy generated by Analasura caused extreme burning and unbearable heat in the body of Lord Ganesha.
🌿 How did Durva become important?
It is said that to calm that raging fire, the gods offered Durva grass to Lord Ganesha. The cool nature of Durva calmed the burning sensation in Ganapati’s body and provided him with extreme coolness. Since then, Durva became very dear to Lord Ganesha and it established a special place in his worship.
