New Delhi, May 22 (IANS). Menstruation is a normal physiological process of women, but not taking care of cleanliness during this period can lead to many health problems. According to experts, problems like infection, severe stomach pain, skin problems and fever often increase due to carelessness. In some cases the situation can also become serious. It is possible to avoid these problems to a great extent by adopting proper hygiene and regular care during periods.
According to health experts, there is a need to increase awareness about women’s health because it is not only the responsibility of the woman but of the entire family and society. In such a situation, the National Health Mission (NHM) tells that taking care of only three main things during periods can prevent many types of infections and diseases.
By following these three things, women can remain healthy and can be protected from many serious diseases like UTI, pelvic infection etc. Women should talk openly about menstruation and give correct information to girls. The government and health organizations are also continuously running awareness programs on menstrual hygiene.
Use of clean and safe sanitary products: Always use good quality sanitary pads, tampons or period cups during periods. Avoid cheap and unknown brand products available in the market as these can cause infection. Choose certified and trusted brands that are skin-friendly.
Changing sanitary pads from time to time: Do not keep one pad in place for a long time i.e. more than 4 to 6 hours. This time should be less during the summer season. Using the same pad for a long time increases bacteria, which can cause infection. Problems like irritation and itching can also be avoided by regular changes.
Special attention to personal hygiene: Clean private parts with clean water 2-3 times a day during periods. Always clean from front to back to avoid bacteria from entering. Avoid wearing tight clothes and use cotton undergarments. Wash hands thoroughly and stay clean.
