New Delhi, June 13 (IANS). June 14… is not just a date, but a day to salute the millions of people who selflessly save someone else’s life by donating their blood. It is celebrated every year as World Blood Donation Day.
We often hear that there is a shortage of blood in hospitals, a patient injured in an accident needs blood immediately, a mother needs blood at the time of delivery or frequent transfusions are needed in the treatment of cancer. At such times, if blood is not received on time, the difference between life and death starts decreasing. This is where blood donors come forward like angels.
Blood is not made in any factory. It cannot be prepared by machines. Only man can give this to man. A small initiative of yours can become a lifeline for an unknown person. That is why it is said that blood donation is the biggest donation.
According to the World Health Organization, millions of units of blood are required every year, but there is a shortage of it in many countries, especially in countries like India where the population is high but the speed of voluntary blood donation is still less than required. To overcome this shortage, awareness campaigns are run every year so that people come forward and donate blood regularly.
There are many misconceptions in the minds of people regarding blood donation. Some people think that it will cause weakness, affect the body or it is a painful process. But the truth is completely different from this. According to doctors, a healthy person can easily donate blood every three months. After donating blood, the body quickly makes new blood and there is no permanent weakness, but it also has many benefits.
Regular blood donation keeps the iron level in the body under control, which can reduce the risk of heart diseases. Apart from this, when you donate blood, you also get a small health checkup done, which can sometimes reveal hidden health problems.
Nowadays blood donation camps are organized in schools, colleges, offices and hospitals. People come in groups and donate blood, which not only helps the needy but also sends a positive message to the society. Social media has also strengthened this campaign, where people inspire others to also donate blood.
