Bengaluru, February 21 (IANS). Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said those working in the health sector should rise above caste and religion and serve humanity.

He was speaking after distributing appointment letters under the Abhay Hasta program organized by the Health and Family Welfare Department. This program included recruitment to various posts in the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Food Safety and Drug Administration.

The Chief Minister said that he expressed satisfaction over one thousand people receiving appointment letters and taking charge in the Health Department. He said that working in the health sector is not just a profession but a meaningful service related to saving lives and preventing diseases.

Siddaramaiah said that after his government came to power for the second time, efforts were being made to fill the vacant posts in a phased manner and several issues in the recruitment process had been resolved.

He said that sectors directly related to public welfare like education, health and policing are the major priorities of the government and steps are being taken to fill the vacant posts in these sectors. He further said that currently more than 25 lakh posts are vacant in various government departments and these will be filled gradually.

CM Siddaramaiah said that the recruitment process is being conducted through counseling to ensure transparency and prevent corruption. The transfer of about 5,700 posts, including doctors, has been done through counselling. The main objective of the government is to prevent corruption in the processes of recruitment and transfers. He warned government employees not to fall into the trap of middlemen involved in matters related to transfers.

Reiterating the importance of all healthcare workers, Siddaramaiah said that non-medical staff play a vital role in the functioning of the health department and they must discharge their duties with humanity beyond caste and religious differences.

“When blood is needed to treat patients, no one pays attention to caste or religion. However, once people recover, they are again trapped in the cycle of caste and religious divisions,” he said.

The CM stressed that more attention should be given to prevention of diseases and said the health department should take a proactive approach in this regard. He said that the government is implementing several schemes with the aim of strengthening and improving the health system of the state.
