New Delhi, May 24 (IANS). Congress MP Imran Masood reacted on issues related to restoration of old names of streets of Lahore in Pakistan, US-India relations, Delhi Gymkhana Club and Tamil Nadu politics.
Speaking to IANS on restoration of pre-partition names of roads in Lahore in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Imran Masood said that when a society tries to erase its heritage and history, with time it realizes the consequences of its decisions.
He said that now the number of Hindus in Pakistan is very less, but old Hindu names are being restored there.
Masood said that historical places like Ram Gali, Sudarshan Chowk and Hari Ghat in Lahore are being redeveloped and beautified. According to him, this is not just a political move, but can also be considered an attempt to erase the mistakes made in the past and the stain of social division.
He said that it is the responsibility of any society to preserve history and cultural heritage.
On US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio’s visit to India and India-US agreements, Imran Masood said that it is not clear to him what will be the main objective of Rubio’s visit, but some of the agreements made by India with America do not appear to be in the interest of the general public of the country.
He said that India is still a developing country and inflation affects the poor and middle class the most. Masood alleged that the influence of international economic policies is also behind the rising inflation and economic pressure.
He also commented on the order by the Central Government to take possession of the land of the historic Delhi Gymkhana Club and restart it.
Masood said that Gymkhana Club is considered to be an institution mainly associated with the elite class and the discussion being held regarding this issue appears to be different from the problems of the general public.
