After the NEET paper leak controversy, the central government is considering taking important steps to make the examination system more secure. According to reports, in future the responsibility of safe transportation of question papers and their custody may be handed over to the Army, with an aim to completely prevent incidents like paper leaks and maintain the credibility of the examinations.
Discussion on increasing the security of NEET exam
An important meeting was held at the residence of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on the subject of making the NEET exam completely secure and transparent. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and senior officials of CBSE and NTA were present in this meeting. According to sources, various issues related to removing difficulties faced by students, making the examination process flawless and preventing any kind of malpractices (wrong methods) in future were discussed in detail.
CBI custody of coaching center founder extended for one day
Meanwhile, a Delhi court on Tuesday extended by a day the CBI custody of coaching center founder Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar, involved in the NEET paper leak case. CBI Special Judge Ajay Gupta extended the custody period. The agency informed the court that further custodial interrogation is necessary to confront the accused with other co-accused, obtain vital evidence and establish the role of the accused in the case. Motegaonkar, founder of Renukai Career Centre, was arrested in Latur on the evening of May 17, and the next day the court sent him to nine days’ CBI custody.
What did CBI say?
The CBI said in its custody petition: “He is involved in leaking and circulating the question papers of NEET-UG 2026 examination; in connivance with other accused he had obtained Chemistry questions and answers before the examination – specifically on April 23, 2026.” CBI has arrested 11 accused in connection with this case. Motegaonkar was the tenth person to be arrested.
Re-examination will be held on June 21
On May 12, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had decided to postpone the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), scheduled for May 3, for admission to undergraduate medical courses, due to allegations of paper leaks. The re-examination will be conducted on June 21.
