Jharkhand News: As part of the campaign being run against narcotics in Chatra district of Jharkhand, the police have arrested a smuggler and recovered brown sugar worth about Rs 15 lakh from him. This action was taken in Bhurkunda forest ground located on Chatra Road of Itkhori police station area. DSP Headquarters Sunil Kumar Singh said that Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithani had received secret information that buying and selling of brown sugar was going to take place in the area.
Taking the information seriously, a special raid team was formed. The police team reached the spot and laid siege to it and arrested a suspicious youth. During the search, 30.31 grams of suspicious brown sugar kept in black plastic was recovered from him. Police also seized a key-pad mobile phone from the spot, which was allegedly being used for communication in the smuggling network. The arrested accused has been identified as Ashok Paswan, resident of Mayadih village of Gidhaur police station area.
The police have registered a case against the accused under the NDPS Act at Itkhori police station and started further action. DSP Sunil Kumar Singh said that a continuous campaign is being conducted against people involved in drug trade in the district. He said that strict action will be taken against smugglers who push youth towards drugs. He warned that the police will no longer be limited to arrests only, but will also initiate the legal process to confiscate properties acquired through illegal business. Itkhori police station in-charge Abhishek Kumar Singh, ASI Rajesh Ram, driver Ravikant Singh and armed forces personnel were involved in this operation.
