New Delhi . After the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge praised him. Sharing a photo with Siddaramaiah on X, Kharge wrote, “Siddaramaiah’s public life has been an example of dignity, compassion and a deep commitment to social justice.” Mallikarjun Kharge wrote, “From a humble background to becoming the Chief Minister of Karnataka twice, Siddaramaiah has been committed to equality, harmony and the welfare of the marginalized. Karnataka and the Congress Party are grateful for his contribution to public life. We wish him good health and his continued contribution in the service of the public.” Siddaramaiah had submitted his resignation from the post of Chief Minister on May 28, which was accepted on Friday. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot took this decision in exercise of the powers received under Article 164 (1) of the Constitution. Gehlot said in a letter to Siddaramaiah, “I have accepted the resignation submitted by you with immediate effect. Until an alternative arrangement is made, you continue to act as acting Chief Minister.”
Earlier on Thursday, after submitting his resignation, Siddaramaiah had said that the decision on the next Chief Minister of the state will be taken by the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and the party high command. He clarified that his resignation was completely voluntary and there was no pressure on him. Siddaramaiah told that during the discussion with the Congress high command in Delhi, he was offered a role in national politics and to go to Rajya Sabha, but he politely rejected it.
He said, “I told the high command that I have no interest in national politics. I want to remain active in Karnataka politics only. The people have elected me for five years and there are still two years left in my tenure. Till then I will continue to serve the people of the state.”
Siddaramaiah said, “I will continue in active politics. I have voluntarily resigned. Whoever is selected in the legislature party meeting and gets the approval of the high command will become the next chief minister.”
