Rajyasabha Election 2026: Congress party did not get any relief from the Election Commission in the nomination papers of Congress Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh, Meenakshi Natarajan. That means Meenakshi’s nomination papers will now remain rejected. The Congress party suffered a major setback when his nomination papers were rejected on Tuesday. Hurt party leaders reached the Election Commission office in Delhi and staged a protest. After listening to the Congress leaders, the Election Commission had given time to the Congress leaders to meet today i.e. Wednesday at 12 noon.
When the Congress leaders reached the Election Commission office on time and appealed to reconsider the rejection of nomination papers, it was also rejected by the Election Commission and thus Congress did not get any relief in the matter.
Meenakshi Natarajan is left with one option
Leaders like KC Venugopal, Bhupesh Baghel and Randeep Surjewala were among the leaders who reached the Election Commission. The party told the Election Commission that Meenakshi’s nomination papers were filled as per the prescribed rules, she did not commit any mistake, hence canceling the nomination papers is completely wrong. But after listening to the arguments of the leaders, the Commission accepted that a mistake was made in filling the nomination form, hence now it will be considered cancelled. Now Meenakshi Natarajan and Congress have only one option left against this decision of the Election Commission and that is to go to the Supreme Court. Congress can appeal in this matter only to the Supreme Court.
What facts were hidden while filing nomination?
It is being told that Meenakshi Natarajan did not give some facts in the nomination form like facts related to ongoing criminal cases etc., which was considered a big mistake by the Returning Officer of Bhopal and her nomination was cancelled. Congress posted on social media on the matter and wrote that the returning officer gave the BJP candidate a chance to correct his mistakes, but did not give it to Meenakshi Natarajan. The Congress party has demanded an impartial investigation into the matter.
