Ludhiana, June 13 (). In Ludhiana, Punjab, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri spoke on the 12-year tenure of the Modi government, prices of petrol and diesel, welfare schemes and the political position of the BJP. He said that despite the huge increase in fuel prices globally, petrol prices in India have come down.
Hardeep Singh Puri said that between May 2022 and May 2026, petrol prices increased by 70 percent in Pakistan, 66 percent in Sri Lanka, 47 percent in France, 46 percent in Italy, 36 percent in Bangladesh and 35 percent in America. In contrast, in India, petrol prices declined by 3.1 percent during the same period. When fuel prices were increasing by 70 to 80 percent in many countries of the world, controlling prices in India is a major achievement of Prime Minister Modi’s policies.
He said that the price of petrol and diesel is decided by many factors. This includes the international price of crude oil, insurance and freight charges, processing costs at the refinery, refiners’ margins, excise duty of the central government and VAT charged by the state governments.
Discussing the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Puri said that recently PM Modi has become the longest serving elected Prime Minister of the country and has left behind the record of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He said that this is not only a historic achievement but also an opportunity to evaluate the development work done in the last 12 years.
He said that at the center of Prime Minister Modi’s policies is commitment and emotional connect with the common citizens. This thinking is visible in all the schemes of the government and the pace of development will be faster in the coming times. He said, “The best is yet to come,” meaning better times are yet to come.
Referring to Swachh Bharat Mission, Hardeep Singh Puri said that under this campaign started in the year 2014, more than 11 crore toilets were built across the country. Daughters and women got the biggest benefit from this, because the construction of toilets in their homes ensured their dignity and safety.
Apart from this, about 4 crore affordable houses have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He told that after becoming Prime Minister for the third time in 2024, Narendra Modi has announced to build 3 crore more houses. The special thing is that the ownership of these houses has been given in the names of a large number of women and daughters.
On political questions, Hardeep Singh Puri said that Bharatiya Janata Party is today the largest political party in India and the largest political party in the world. He said in clear words that if anyone thinks that they can play the role of junior partner by forming an alliance, then it will not be acceptable.”
Commenting on the politics of West Bengal, he said that there is a long history behind the circumstances there and the complete picture has been emerging with time. He said that even during the last elections, he was given the responsibility in Bengal and he has seen the situation there closely.
