Suspense on 2 ventilators, claims of loss of eyesight

Bikaner. The sensational case of kidney failure and serious condition of pregnant women after delivery in the Janana ward of PBM Hospital in Bikaner is continuously gaining prominence. Another pregnant woman in the hospital has been shifted to ICU after her kidney failure, after which the number of seriously ill women admitted in ICU has now increased to 4. Of these, 2 mothers are on life support system (ventilator). Meanwhile, reports of two women losing their eyesight have made the matter more sensitive. Acting Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Parmendra Sirohi said that Meghraj’s wife Kamala was delivered on June 8, after which his health was continuously deteriorating. After medical examination confirmed kidney failure, he was immediately shifted to ICU. Considering Kamla’s critical condition, 3 dialysis have been done so far.
According to the bulletin issued by the doctors, the medical condition of the other women admitted to the hospital remains extremely serious:
Women admitted in ICU:
Tara Devi (27): Acute kidney injury (AKI), severe anemia (blood deficiency), fluid filling outside the lungs and dangerous levels of potassium.
Rahila (19): Postpartum bleeding, severe platelet deficiency, infection, acute kidney injury and multiple organ dysfunction.
Imarti (20): Multiple organ dysfunction, severe blood infection and acute kidney injury.
Women admitted on ventilator support:
Sharda (26): Her health deteriorated after cesarean delivery. He has been put on ventilator due to acute kidney injury, platelet problem and clotting issue.
Preeti (20): Postpartum seizures due to high blood pressure, lung problems, acute kidney injury and suspicion of HELLP syndrome. There is a possibility that lack of oxygen may affect the brain.
Contradiction in the statements of doctors and family members on the claims of loss of eyesight. On the news of loss of eyesight of two pregnant women (Sharda and Preeti) admitted in the hospital, a difference is being seen in the statements of the hospital administration and the family members.
Hospital administration’s reasoning: Acting Superintendent Dr. Parmendra Sirohi says that both the patients are currently in an unconscious (unconscious or semi-unconscious) state. In such a situation, it is too early to say medically that he has completely lost his eyesight.
Statement of family members: Preeti’s husband Kamal, who was admitted on ventilator, said that the doctors have not given him any official information about the loss of eyesight. This matter came to light after the Medical Minister who visited the hospital had mentioned this. He said that Preeti’s eyes were absolutely fine when brought to the hospital.
According to medical sources, women admitted on ventilators have been hit by HELLP syndrome, an extremely rare and life-threatening condition that occurs during pregnancy or after delivery. Medical Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, who visited Bikaner two days ago, had held a review meeting with the doctors and declared the patients out of danger, but the continuously worsening situation remains worrying.
Committees of health department and expert doctors are engaged to investigate this entire episode in depth. No official conclusion has yet emerged regarding the main reasons for sudden kidney failure in pregnant women (such as drug reaction, infection or medical negligence). All parties are now waiting for the final investigation report of the expert committee.
