Bhagwan Dada: Today we are going to tell you the story of a person who was nothing at one time. He was brought up in poverty. But due to his hard work he became a millionaire and again lost everything. In his last days, his condition became such that he had to live in rice and depend on the film studio even for food.
Who was Bhagwan Dada?
Actually today we are going to talk about Bhagwan Dada who used to be the top comedian as well as actor of Indian cinema. He was also a director. There was a time when he used to be in the list of the richest actors of the country. Lived in a bungalow with 25 rooms. But due to his bad habits and bad company he lost everything.
Bhagwan Dada acquired a lot of wealth in his life and then wasted it on people. But because of whatever he did to Lalita Pawar, she remained burning in the fire of remorse throughout her life. He also cheated on his wife. Because of which he used to say that God has punished him.
Bhagwan Dada’s condition had become such that he was forced to extend his hands in front of others. He started working in silent films in the 30s. Started working as a junior artist. Later he got work in film production and produced films for many years.
Had produced many big films
Bhagwan Dada had worked in some films and was a famous artist of his time. He produced the biggest film in his career, Albela and Geeta Bali was seen in it. The film proved to be a blockbuster and ran for 50 weeks in theatres. This film had made Bhagwan Dada a millionaire.
Bhagwan Dada worked in more than 600 films in his career and also produced 27 films. Within no time he became rich and started living in a luxurious bungalow with 25 rooms. But later Bhagwan Dada lost everything. During an interview with Filmfare in 2001, he told that even his friends had shunned him and only Dilip Kumar supported him.
All my friends had left me
In the interview, Bhagwan Dada told that “There used to be a time when big people of the industry used to be my friends. But everyone had broken relations with me and even today, whenever Dilip Kumar passes near my window, he stops his car and honks. He used to move ahead only after we both greeted each other.”
Bhagwan Dada became poor due to bad habits
When Bhagwan Dada lost everything, he lived in a chawl with his family. Did small roles in films. Food was also available in the studio. In another interview, he had told that his wealth sank because of his bad habits. He said, “I had become very fond of alcohol and kebabs. I started gambling in cards and race courses. Alcohol and women had become my weakness. I had cheated on my wife. Maybe that’s why God punished me. After becoming a millionaire from a laborer, I became a pauper.”
Bhagwan Dada kept burning in the fire of remorse
For information, let us tell you that in the year 2002, Bhagwan Dada died in the chawl itself. Even in the last days of his death, he had regrets because he slapped Lalita Pawar on the sets of a film so much so that one of her eyes was damaged. Half of his face was also paralyzed.
During an interview with Filmfare, Bhagwan Dada had said, “I am very sorry that I was the reason for Lalita Pawar’s facial paralysis. During a scene in one of our early films, I had slapped her so hard that her left eye was damaged. This was not at all worthy of forgiveness. There is no apology for my actions.”
