Bhopal, June 18 (IANS). Bhopal AIIMS will celebrate International Yoga Day on 21st June. On this occasion, a special program will be organized on the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’. This program will highlight the growing importance of yoga in improving physical, mental and emotional health at every stage of life.
This event will be organized by the ‘Collaborative Center for Mind-Body Intervention through Yoga’ at AIIMS Bhopal. Under this event, there will be a group yoga session in front of Kautilya Bhawan in the institute campus from 7 am to 8 am. This will include students, faculty members, healthcare professionals and common people.
According to AIIMS Bhopal, this year’s theme highlights how important a role yoga can play in ensuring healthy and active aging amid the increasing burden of aging and lifestyle-related diseases. The theme encourages people to adopt yoga as a lifelong habit, which helps maintain body mobility, strength, mental clarity and emotional strength even as we age.
AIIMS Bhopal Executive Director Ajay Singh said that Yoga is one of India’s most important contributions to global health and wellness. Yoga is not just a form of physical exercise, but a holistic system that harmonizes body, mind and spirit. Regular exercise improves flexibility, balance, cardiovascular health and mental well-being, and also reduces stress and anxiety. In the context of healthy aging, yoga can help people remain self-reliant, enhance quality of life, and prevent many chronic diseases.
He said that the importance of ‘preventive healthcare’ is continuously increasing as non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and heart diseases are on the rise. Yoga is an easy, affordable and scientifically proven way to prevent diseases and improve health. AIIMS Bhopal is committed to promote healthy lifestyle habits through awareness campaigns, research and community outreach programmes.
He said that since the adoption of a United Nations resolution in 2014, ‘International Yoga Day’ is celebrated across the world on June 21 every year. Over time, this annual event has become a global movement, with millions of people participating in yoga sessions to promote overall health, harmony and well-being.
AIIMS Bhopal officials said that participants in the program on June 21 will get a chance to do yoga under the supervision of experts and get information about the role of yoga in reducing stress, improving physical fitness and healthy ageing.
The institute hopes that this program will further strengthen awareness about preventive healthcare and inspire people of all ages to include yoga in their daily routine.
The event is part of AIIMS Bhopal’s broader efforts to promote wellness, disease prevention and community health through evidence-based interventions and people-engagement initiatives.
