Bhubaneswar, July 5 (IANS). Odisha Commissionerate Police arrested a 22-year-old youth on Sunday. He is accused of sharing objectionable reels containing morphed obscene photos and videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on his social media account.
The accused youth Biswajit Sahu is a resident of Nua Sahi area under Jagatpur police station area of Cuttack district.
Speaking to the media, Suchismita Das, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime and Economic Offences), Bhubaneswar Police Station, said that it has become a trend to post objectionable photos and videos of the constitutional heads of our state and country by misusing AI and digital tools on social media. During the investigation of this case, Cyber Crime and Economic Offenses Police Station has arrested a person named Biswajit Sahu from Cuttack.
He said that during routine monitoring on social media on July 4, the Cyber Crime and Economic Offenses Police Station detected alleged objectionable content posted from an Instagram account.
The ACP also said that during investigation, the police found that Sahu had shared several reel videos from his account, in which abusive language was used for the Chief Minister and digitally altered photographs of Prime Minister Modi and the Chief Minister were shown in an objectionable manner.
The accused took these pictures of Chief Minister Majhi and Prime Minister Modi from the internet, modified them and used them as thumbnails in his social media posts to attract people’s attention.
The accused also used derogatory comments, obscene gestures and defamatory remarks to describe the incidents.
These posts were shared on social media with negative messages and spread misinformation and obscenity, reaching millions of people. This was done deliberately with the aim of damaging the reputation of the Chief Minister through digital medium and misleading the youth.
Based on social media patrol report, a case (101/26) was registered and investigation initiated.
