He wrote that he is grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the redeveloped Majbat Railway Station. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, this 117 year old station has been equipped with modern facilities. Under this initiative, 50 stations are being upgraded across Assam.
Majbat railway station, located in Udalguri district of Assam, is one of the oldest railway stations in the region. The upgraded station has been equipped with better passenger amenities, modern infrastructure and advanced features to provide a better travel experience.
This redevelopment has been done under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which is a flagship project of the Central Government. The scheme aims to modernize railway stations across the country by improving passenger amenities, accessibility and station infrastructure, while also incorporating local architectural features.
Mazabat Railway Station, established around 1909 during the British period, is one of the oldest railway stations in Assam and has been an important transportation hub for more than a century.
Located in present-day Udalguri district, the station played an important role in connecting the tea growing areas of northern Assam with major commercial centres, facilitating the movement of tea, timber, agricultural products and passengers.
Its strategic location also strengthened connectivity between remote areas of the state and the rest of the country. Over the decades, the station has evolved into an important socio-economic lifeline for the region, facilitating access to trade, education and healthcare for the people of Majbat and surrounding areas.
