New Delhi, July 18 (IANS). Regarding the health of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, his wife Gitanjali J. Angmo has expressed concern. He raised questions regarding the health report and treatment process of Safdarjung Hospital. Geetanjali claimed that the hospital report showed Sonam Wangchuk’s potassium level to be 2.9, whereas a day earlier it was 4.3.
Gitanjali J. Angmo posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and wrote that she wanted permission to take Sonam Wangchuk to another lab for a second opinion, but she was not allowed to do so. He also alleged that his demand for taking blood samples in his presence was not fulfilled so that he could get the test done at some other place.
She said she has been waiting for a response from the hospital for several hours and is worried about the lack of transparency. Geetanjali said that the family has demanded immediate discharge, so that Sonam Wangchuk can be taken to the hospital of her choice. However, there was no immediate response from the hospital in this regard.
Earlier, Sonam Wangchuk’s health bulletin was issued by Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital. According to this, 59-year-old Sonam Wangchuk was brought to the hospital by Delhi Police at 7:40 am on July 18. He was admitted after not taking food for about 20 days and in a state of general weakness.
According to the hospital, Sonam Wangchuk was completely conscious at the time of admission and her pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation were stable. However, investigation revealed signs of dehydration in his body. Blood gas analysis revealed ‘compensated acidosis’ and low serum potassium levels. His blood sugar was recorded at 78 mg/dl.
The hospital said that at the time of admission the urinary ketone level was 1plus, which increased to 3plus by 1 pm. Doctors advised her to take intravenous (IV) fluids, oral rehydration fluids and necessary medicines, but as per the health bulletin, Sonam Wangchuk refused to take these treatments.
Safdarjung Hospital said that he is being constantly monitored and keeping his health in mind, the team of doctors is trying to convince him for treatment. At present, the situation is being monitored between the family and the hospital regarding Sonam Wangchuk’s health and treatment.
