In Sanatan Dharma, many questions often arise in people’s minds regarding karma and destiny. The biggest question is that if the events happening in life are already decided as per destiny, then what is the need to do karma? Many people get frustrated thinking that what is the point of trying when everything is in the hands of destiny.
But a detailed solution to this doubt is found in the scriptures and the words of the saints. Many incidents of Ramcharitmanas show that along with destiny, karma is also very important in life.
What is destiny?
According to religious beliefs, the results of a person’s actions in his previous births that are certain to be received in his present life are called destiny. That is, some circumstances and events are considered predetermined.
But the scriptures also say that through present actions a person can influence his future. Therefore, it was not considered appropriate to rely only on luck.
What does Lord Ram’s exile teach?
According to Ramcharitmanas, Lord Shri Ram’s exile can be considered a part of destiny. Despite being the prince of Ayodhya, he was sent into exile for 14 years.
If he wanted, he could have changed the situation with his power, but following his religion and duty, he accepted exile. This incident teaches that even when difficult circumstances arise, one should not give up one’s duty and dignity.
Why is Hanuman ji’s hard work important?
Luck alone was not enough to reach Lanka. Hanuman crossed the ocean with his strength, courage and efforts and located Mother Sita.
This incident tells us that along with God’s grace and destiny, efforts are also necessary. It was not considered possible to achieve success merely by luck without hard work.
Why was karma considered the basis of life?
According to religious texts, destiny gives circumstances to a person, but how to act in those circumstances depends on the karma of the person.
If a person gives up in the face of difficulties, he may lose opportunities. At the same time, positive actions and efforts have the ability to change even adverse circumstances.
Tulsidas ji’s message
Goswami Tulsidas has explained the importance of karma, devotion and patience at many places in Ramcharitmanas. His message was that man should keep doing his work and leave the results to God.
Can life change only by luck?
According to religious and spiritual experts, both fate and karma are linked to each other. Destiny may set certain limits, but karma influences a person’s direction and development.
This is the reason why in Sanatan Dharma, effort i.e. continuous effort is considered very important. The context of Ramcharitmanas teaches that no matter what the circumstances are, a person should never leave the path of religion, duty and action.
