The Gopis used to tease Lord Krishna and whenever Kanha did any mischief, the Gopis would go to Mother Yashoda with their complaint. Mother Yashoda became very upset with the daily complaints of the Gopis. Once angry, Mother Yashoda ran after Kanha with a small stick. Mother Yashoda wanted to scold him, but seeing his mother coming towards him, Kanha started running away. Kanha started running ahead and mother Yashoda started running behind to catch them. Kanha ran to a potter and told the potter to hide me quickly otherwise Mother Yashoda is coming to catch me. The potter wondered where to hide them, but then he came up with an idea and hid them under a big pot.
After some time, Mother Yashoda also reached there. She was searching for her child, because she had seen him coming this way. When they did not see Kanha anywhere, they asked the potter. Why have you seen my Kanha anywhere? He has come here somewhere. The potter, engrossed in his work, said, “No mother, I did not see Kanhaiya. I was busy in my work.” Nandlal was listening to all the conversations between mother and the potter from inside the pot. After some time, when the sound stopped, he realized that the mother had left from there, so he said to the potter, “Take me out from under this pot.”
The potter knew that the Lord was in the form of Kanha, he said, “Kanhaiya, I am not going to let you out so easily, first you promise to free me from the bondage of eighty-four lakh births.” Nandlal smiled at the potter’s cleverness. After this he said, “Okay, I promise to free you from eighty-four lakh vaginas. Now remove the bar from me.” The potter again thought in his mind that today Lord Shri Krishna is in my control. I will get whatever I ask for.
This opportunity is not going to come again, he thought in his mind and then said, “Lord, promise to free not only me but all the people of my family from the bondage of eighty-four lakh births. Only after this I will take you out of this pot.” Kanha said smilingly, “Okay, I promise to free all the members of your family from the bondage of eighty-four lakh species. Now take them out.” Even after this the potter did not take them out, he thought for a while and then started saying. I have one request, you fulfill it, only then I will get you out of here.
Lord Shri Krishna started enjoying these words of the potter. God said, “Okay, tell me this thing of yours also.” The potter immediately said, “Prabhuji, the soil of the pot under which you are hiding has been brought on my oxen. For this reason, please promise to free my oxen from the bondage of eighty-four lakh species.” Lord Krishna was very pleased with the potter’s words and immediately promised to free the potter’s bulls from the bondage of eighty-four lakh births.
Now the potter said again, “Lord, I have one wish left, fulfill that too, otherwise you will never come to my hands again.” Lord Shri Krishna asked smilingly from inside the pitcher, tell me that also. The potter said, “Lord, my last wish is that whoever listens to this conversation between us, you should promise to free him from the bondage of eighty-four lakh births. Only after this I will take you out of the pot.”
Lord Shri Krishna was very happy after seeing and hearing this love of the potter, he promised to fulfill his last wish also. After getting all his wishes fulfilled, the potter lifted the pot and threw Kanha out. After this the potter hugged Kanhaiya. If Lord Krishna, who lifted Govardhan Mountain on his finger, had wanted, he could have come out of the pot immediately, but this was his leela. -Feature Desk
Bodh Katha
King Anantdev of Lalit Nagari was once having dinner in his palace. Suddenly a little vegetable from the hand of the servant serving food spilled on the clothes of King Anantdev. King Anantdev frowned. When the servant saw this, he got a little scared, but after thinking something, he poured all the remaining vegetables in the cup on King Anantdev’s clothes. Now there was no limit to the anger of King Anantdev.
Anantdev asked the servant, how did you dare to do this? The servant replied very calmly, Maharaj! Earlier, after seeing your anger, I had understood that now my life will not be saved, but then I thought that people will say that King Anantdev has given death sentence to an innocent person for a small mistake. In such a situation you would have been defamed.
Then I thought that I should throw away all the vegetables so that the world does not defame you and consider me a criminal. King Anantdev saw a serious message in his reply that if a servant can forgive a king, then can’t I, being a king, forgive a servant. The one who forgives is always greater than the one who commits a mistake. Thinking this, the king felt embarrassed and forgave the servant. -Surendra Agnihotri
