Mohammed Shami acquitted: Indian cricket team’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami has got a big relief in the check bounce case. Shami has been acquitted by Alipore Court in the check bounce case filed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan.
Cricketer Mohammed’s ex-wife Hasin Jahan had alleged that a check of Rs 1 lakh given by Shami for household expenses had bounced. While giving the verdict on Wednesday, Alipore Court acquitted him of all the charges in this case.
Speaking to IANS, Shami’s lawyer Salim Rehman said, “Cricketer Mohammed Shami has been acquitted in the four-year-old case which was filed by his wife.” The case was heard in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Alipore on Wednesday, where Shami was acquitted of all charges.
It is noteworthy that in the year 2018, Hasin Jahan had alleged that Shami had given her a check of Rs 1 lakh for household expenses, which later bounced when deposited in the bank. After this he approached the court and filed a case against Shami. Apart from this case, he had also filed several other complaints against Shami and his family members.
Shami appeared in the court on Wednesday. Speaking to the media after the verdict, Shami said that he already knew that the verdict would be in his favor as he had done nothing wrong. He said, “I have paid every single rupee of whatever money I had to pay. Be it on or off the field, I always try to handle every situation to the best of my ability.” Shami is currently representing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but for the past few years, he has been in the news due to his ongoing legal disputes with his estranged wife.
The ongoing legal battle between Shami and Haseen Jahan regarding maintenance and alimony is still going on. As per the directions of the Calcutta High Court, Shami currently pays Rs 1.5 lakh per month to Haseen Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh for the care and upbringing of his daughter.
Hasin Jahan later moved the Supreme Court, arguing that the amount was not sufficient to meet household expenses. The apex court has issued notices to both Shami and the West Bengal government. During the hearing, the court also raised the question whether the amount of Rs 4 lakh per month is inadequate for the maintenance of a mother and daughter.
