According to English calendar, 2026 is the year with Adhikamasha. There will be two Jyeshtha months in Adhikamas after eight years, whereas last time there were two Sawans in Adhikamas. In this way the year 2026 will be of 13 months. There will be changes in most of the festivals as compared to last year.
This year, in the first six months the festivals will fall 10 days earlier than last year and in the next six months the festivals will be delayed by 16 to 19 days. Therefore, this time Holi will be celebrated 10 days earlier on March 4 and Diwali will be celebrated 17 days late from last year i.e. on November 8. Adhik Maas is also called Purushottam Maas. According to astrological calculations, Adhikamas is an additional lunar month, which is added to the solar calendar every three years. Just as there is a leap year in the English calendar, similarly there is Adhikamas in the Panchang. The solar year is 365 days and the lunar year is 364 days. On the basis of astrology, an Adhikamas occurs once in three years to eliminate the gap of 11 days between the lunar and solar years.
