Shani Jayanti is celebrated on the Amavasya (new moon) day of Jyeshtha month. It is also called Shani Amavasya. It is believed that on this day, Lord Shani, the God of Justice and son of Lord Surya (Sun God) and Goddess Chaya, was born. Therefore, worshiping Lord Shani on this day is considered especially important. According to traditional beliefs, performing such puja brings very auspicious results. **When is Shani Jayanti 2026?**
According to Panchang (Hindu calendar), Amavasya of Jyeshtha month will start at 4:12 am on Saturday, May 16. Amavasya Tithi will continue till 1:31 am the next day – Sunday, May 17. Therefore, based on the calculation of Uday Tithi (date prevalent at the time of sunrise), Shani Jayanti will be celebrated on 16th May. This year, Shani Jayanti is falling on Saturday, which is traditionally considered a day dedicated to Lord Shani. As a result, immense spiritual virtue can be attained by worshiping on this day with proper rituals and following some simple measures.

**Shani Jayanti Puja Method**
On the day of Jyeshtha Amavasya, the devotee should wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. After that, he should wear clean clothes. At the place of worship, spread a black cloth on a high platform (*chowki*) and install the idol or picture of Lord Shani on it. After this, perform religious bath (*Abhishek*) of Lord Shani using *Panchagavya*, *Panchamrit* and other similar holy items.
Apply *kumkum* (vermilion) and *kajal* to Lord Shani. Also, ensure that a mustard oil lamp is placed right in front of them, and worship them with incense, lamp and other religious paraphernalia. On the occasion of Shani Jayanti, it is considered extremely auspicious to offer flowers and oil-based sweets as *bhog* (sacred food offerings) to Lord Shani. Besides, one should also chant mantras dedicated to Lord Shani.
After reciting *Shani Chalisa*, perform *Aarti* (lamp lighting ceremony) of Lord Shani as per proper rituals and religious customs; Finally, apologize for any mistakes made during the puja.

**Measures to please Shani Dev**
Doing some simple measures on the day of Shani Jayanti is considered very auspicious. These measures can prove helpful in removing the adverse effects associated with Shani Dev. For this, prepare *Prasad* of black gram on the day of Shani Jayanti and feed it to the monkeys. Apart from this, you can also offer this black gram *Prasad* under a Peepal tree.
Chanting mantras dedicated to Shani Dev is considered an excellent means of obtaining his divine blessings. To fulfill this purpose, you can chant the mantra “Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah” 108 times.
