New Delhi. At the inaugural India Mobility Show, Mercedes-Benz will showcase its EQG electric concept, which is the G-Class counterpart that will be arriving in production form soon. The concept emphasizes the electric future of off-roaders. In terms of appearance, the EQG resembles the G-Class but incorporates EQ styling cues. In particular, there is a cover at the rear for the charging cable, which is different from the standard G-Wagon spare wheel. Styling features include a 3D star and an LED strip on the roof with a rack. While the EQG is similar to the G-Wagon in size, it features several changes under the EQ brand. It is based on the EQG ladder frame chassis, which promises off-roading capabilities.
The EQG has four electric motors and a 2-speed gearbox, which is wheel-mounted for better off-road torque than the diesel or petrol variants. Moving to the cabin, the EQG offers typical EV styling touches, including a large Screen and a cabin design. It remains to be seen whether it will adopt the Hyper Screen found in other EQ models.
The EQG is an important step forward for the G-Class, with the production version expected to arrive in 2025. Mercedes-Benz has several launches planned this year, including new SUVs and EVs. Various automotive manufacturers will participate in the India Mobility Show from February 1 to 3.
