Norton Atlas and Atlas GT get a 585 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which is priced at Rs 9,300. rpm But gives power of 69 bhp and peak torque of 57 Nm at 7,500 rpm.
TVS’s British brand Norton Motorcycles has unveiled the features and specifications of its new Atlas and Atlas GT adventure bikes. These bikes have been designed at Norton’s headquarters in Solihull, England, while they will be manufactured at the TVS factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, India.
Both the motorcycles are powered by a 585cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine, which produces 69 bhp power at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm torque at 7,500 rpm. The engine uses a 270-degree crankshaft configuration and segment-best APS (Atmospheric Plasma Spray) coating.
The Norton Atlas and Atlas GT are the first motorcycles to adopt the company’s new design language. Although both the models look similar, their riding position and suspension setup are different. The Atlas gets a longer wheelbase, more ground clearance and 180 mm of suspension travel, while the Atlas GT is more road-focused and has 140 mm of suspension travel.
Both bikes get fully adjustable 43 mm USD front forks and KYB monoshock suspension. The Atlas weighs 188 kg and the Atlas GT weighs 192 kg. Talking about features, Norton has equipped these bikes with modern electronics.
These include multi-plate slipper clutch, bi-directional quick shifter, lean-sensitive ABS, cornering traction control, cornering cruise control, tire pressure monitoring system, vehicle hold function, wheelie control, slide control and five riding modes. Apart from this, 8-inch TFT display, integrated navigation and Norton Rider app connectivity is also available. Heated grips will be offered as an optional feature.
The Norton Atlas comes with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear aluminum alloy wheels, while the Atlas GT gets 17-inch front and rear cast-alloy wheels. Both the bikes have a segment-first braking setup with 310 mm dual floating front disc brake and radial callipers. The seat height of the Atlas is 845 mm, while the Atlas GT gets a lower seat height of 815 mm. For the convenience of those traveling long distances, the company has provided a provision for installing grab handle and luggage directly in the chassis of the bike.
