The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a new draft. According to this, it has been proposed to increase the validity of PUCC from 1 year to 3 years for BS-VI private vehicles up to 6 years old. This will free people from the hassle of going to pollution centers again and again. The purpose of this step of the government is to provide relief to the owners of modern and less polluting vehicles.

New rules according to vehicles
In the draft notification of the ministry, the schedule of PUCC renewal has been fixed according to the age of the vehicles. Let us tell you that BS-VI vehicles up to 6 years old will have to take certificate every 3 years. At the same time, a time limit has been fixed for 6 to 10 years old BS-VI vehicles. Apart from this, it will be mandatory for BS-VI vehicles older than 10 years to renew their PUCC every 6 months. With this, the pollution of old vehicles can also be kept under close control.
What are the rules for old vehicles?
In the new policy, the rules for vehicles of BS-IV and older standards have been kept very strict. According to the notification, BS-IV vehicles manufactured between 2017 to 2020 will have to renew PUCC every 6 months. At the same time, vehicles following BS-I, BS-II and BS-III standards will have to undergo testing every 3 months. This means that owners of old vehicles will have to make frequent trips to the pollution centers like before.
Why changed the rules?
BS i.e. Bharat Stage is the standard set for the smoke emitted from vehicles in the country. This rule sets limits on harmful elements like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter. These rules are based on European emission norms. Their aim is to gradually remove more polluting vehicles from the roads. BS-VI vehicles emit very little pollution and use special low-sulphur fuel.

India had taken a big step to quickly control pollution. BS-VI norms were directly implemented in the country from April 2020, bypassing BS-V. Since BS-VI vehicles are made with modern technology and cause very little harm to the environment. Therefore, the government is giving relief to the owners of these vehicles in PUCC renewal. After the implementation of this new rule, lakhs of car owners will get direct savings of both time and money.
