Hero MotoCorp may expand its portfolio with new Vida EV scooters, Xoom scooters and premium bikes in the next financial year
Hero MotoCorp is preparing for aggressive expansion in FY27. The company is now betting big on electric scooters, premium motorcycles and high-capacity two-wheelers. Although commuter motorcycles still form a major part of the company’s total sales, Hero is rapidly expanding its presence into new segments.
The most important part of this strategy is the Vida electric scooter range. Hero is planning to increase its EV production in a big way in the coming times and aims to almost triple the production of electric scooters by the end of 2026. The company believes that the share of electric scooters in its total sales will increase rapidly in the next few years and by the end of this decade, EVs may constitute more than 50 percent of total scooter sales.
Hero is also rapidly expanding Vida’s retail and service network. Also, emphasis is being laid on increasing local procurement of components (localisation), which will reduce costs and make the supply chain stronger. The company has already revealed plans to achieve around 90 per cent PLI coverage for its electric vehicle portfolio by FY27.
On the other hand, due to increasing demand for Xoom scooter range, Hero is also increasing its production significantly. Apart from this, the production capacity of Destiny scooter lineup is also being increased. Seeing the increasing demand for scooters in India, the company wants to take full advantage of this opportunity. Hero MotoCorp is preparing to launch more than 12 new two-wheelers, which will include both electric and petrol models.
There will also be models with flex-fuel technology. Many new products will be introduced targeting the premium motorcycle segment and the category above 125cc. The company has already entered the middleweight motorcycle segment through the Mavrick 440 and Harley-Davidson X440. The upcoming new models will further strengthen Hero’s presence and give a tough challenge to brands like Royal Enfield, Honda, Bajaj and TVS.
In the last financial year, Hero MotoCorp had sold around 55 lakh motorcycles and more than 5.7 lakh scooters. The company also recorded a significant increase in profits in the last quarter of FY26. In FY27, Hero plans to invest around Rs 1,500 crore on EV expansion, research and development, future mobility solutions and development of new products. Additionally, Hero MotoCorp is also expanding its presence in several international markets and is working towards introducing new products as per the local needs.
