New Delhi, November 13 (IANS). Diabetes is a problem which is affecting everyone from children to adults and the cases of diabetes are increasing year after year.

World Diabetes Day is celebrated all over the world on 14 November every year to prevent the spread and diagnosis of diabetes. Awareness about diabetes is given in urban as well as rural areas because some people do not consider this problem as a disease and some people do not even know that they are suffering from this disease.

World Diabetes Day was first celebrated in the year 1991. It was started by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization together to create awareness and diagnosis of diabetes among the people. Diabetes figures are increasing every year in the country, and by the year 2025, 1 in every 3 people worldwide will have diabetes and 1 in 4 people will not know that they are suffering from prediabetes.

According to the data of International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organization, the adult population is being more affected by this disease. Due to excessive stress and poor lifestyle, 1 in every 9 adults around the world is a victim of this disease and 40 percent of the youth do not even know that they are suffering from this disease. According to the World Health Organization, by 2025, approximately 830 million people worldwide will have diabetes and this figure is going to increase further.

On World Diabetes Day, first of all let us know what diabetes is. After eating food, our body produces glucose, which works to provide energy to the body, but insulin hormone is needed to transport glucose to the blood and cells for energy. Pancreas works to make insulin, and if it does not make insulin properly, then the glucose consumption does not reach the cells properly and the amount of sugar in the blood increases. This condition is called diabetes.

Among diabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are most commonly seen. Diabetes can also be a problem during pregnancy. Type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes can be controlled to a great extent in time, but type 1 diabetes is a dangerous stage in which the pancreas stops producing insulin completely. In this condition, there is pressure on the kidneys, eyes and heart.
