Tata Nexon and Punch cross 4 lakh sales mark in FY 2026 and gain 31 percent market share in the segment
Tata Nexon and Punch were at the forefront in increasing the sales of Tata Motors in the last financial year. Both of them stood first and second respectively in the compact SUV segment. Together, their total sales easily crossed the 4 lakh mark and by the end of the year 4,00,034 units were recorded. Due to this, about 31 percent market share was achieved in this segment.
The biggest contribution was from Nexon. Its 2,16,054 units were sold in FY 2026, which is much more than last year’s 1,63,088 units. With an impressive growth of 32.5 per cent, Tata Nexon alone topped the segment with 16.7 per cent market share. Whereas Punch sold 1,83,980 units in FY 2026, which is 6.4 percent less than 1,96,572 units in FY 2025.
Despite this, it continues to be among the best-selling cars in the country and maintains a strong market share of 14.3 percent. The main reason for the success of this pair is that despite being in the same segment, both cater to different needs. Nexon is available in all three options, petrol, diesel and electric, making it accessible to more people. Whereas Punch’s focus is on easy driving, compact size and affordable price.

Tata Nexon is set to get a major update around 2027, with major changes expected in the exterior design and cabin. On the other hand, the Tata Punch (both ICE and electric) has recently received a mid-life update, making it competitive in the fast-changing segment.
Talking about the price, the price of ICE Nexon starts from around Rs 7.36 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.95 lakh. Whereas the price of ICE Punch starts from Rs 5.59 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.60 lakh for the top variant. The Nexon Electric is priced between Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 17.49 lakh, while the Punch Electric goes from Rs 9.69 lakh to Rs 12.59 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
In some variants, the price of both the vehicles is almost the same, but in reality they are quite different from each other. There is a clear difference in matters like weight, internal space, ease of use, features, technology and comfort. This is the reason why customers choose the right option between these two according to their needs and budget.
