Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has repeated the demand for full state status to the Union Territory from different forums several times. However, now on Tuesday, he said that he would like to resign instead of aligning with BJP for this work.
In fact, Abdullah said this while speaking at an event in Achabal area of Anantnag district.
Omar Abdullah said, “If you (people) are ready, tell me, because I am not ready to deal with this. If it is necessary to include BJP in the government, then accept my resignation. Make any MLA here Chief Minister and make a government with BJP, I am not ready for it.”
He said, “Should we have included the BJP in the government? There was a possibility that we could have got a gift by joining the BJP in the government. They would have given us the status of state in advance.”
Referring to the PDP-BJP alliance in 2015, the Chief Minister said, “Congress and National Conference (NC) were ready. The BJP could be excluded from the government. But the BJP was made an excuse to represent the BJP.”
He said, “His government gave representation to Jammu without involving the BJP. We represent Pir Panjal and the low -lying areas of Jammu. Today, Deputy Chief Minister is from Jammu, that too without joining BJP.”
Abdullah said that he would continue to struggle to restore state status, but will do this in a peaceful and democratic manner.
He said, “How many young people do you want to see bleeding? I am not ready for it. We will fight, but in a democratic and peaceful manner. We will gain our rights in the scope of the Constitution and the law, but I am not ready to bring havoc in the homes of the people here.”
Pointing to the situation in Ladakh, he said that the people there had celebrated the decision of August 5, 2019, but now they are opposing and seeking state status and sixth schedule status.
He said, “People of Ladakh are now saying that what happened to them was wrong. The people of Kargil never accepted that decision, but see how the situation in Leh has changed. People who celebrated the decision of August 5, 2019, are protesting against him today.”
