The Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is based on the same platform as the Maruti e-Vitara and is expected to launch in the Indian market in 2026
The Toyota Urban Cruiser electric SUV has recently been put on sale in Indonesia, where its on-road Jakarta price has been kept at around IDR 759 million (approximately Rs 40.78 lakh) and is available there as a fully imported (CBU) model. This 5-seater electric SUV will be produced locally for India and is likely to be launched next year.
The midsize electric SUV made its global debut in Brussels some time ago. Like international markets, it is expected to be available in 49 kWh and 61.1 kWh battery pack options in India too. The electric motor installed in it generates power of 172 hp and torque of 192 Nm. Like the larger bZ4X, it will also be provided with Toyota’s T Intouch connected technology, through which users will be able to view important vehicle information from the mobile app and control many features remotely.
This will be Toyota’s first fully electric car when launched in India. It was also earlier showcased at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025 held in Delhi. This SUV will be based on the same Heartect e platform on which Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is being built. Both models will have many common components and systems and will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, furthering the Toyota-Suzuki partnership strategy.
The Maruti e-Vitara will be launched in India next month, while the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is expected to reach Indian showrooms in the first half of 2026. After launch, it will enter the fast-growing midsize electric SUV segment, where it will compete with vehicles like Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Harrier EV, Curve EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, BE 6 and MG ZS EV.
Talking about dimensions, the length of Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV will be 4,285 mm, width 1,800 mm, height 1,640 mm and wheelbase 2,700 mm. The features list will include advanced features like large touchscreen infotainment system (with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support), digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, 6 airbags, flat-bottom steering wheel, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control and level-2 ADAS.
Toyota plans to launch 15 new or updated vehicles in India by 2030. Some of these will be completely new Toyota models, some will be models made in collaboration with Suzuki and some will be updated versions of existing vehicles. These will also include two brand new SUVs.
