The flow of fake news on social media and WhatsApp in the name of automobile giant Tata Motors is showing no signs of stopping. In recent times, rumors of launching ‘Tata Classic 125cc bike’ for just Rs 59,000 or a cheap bike with 95 km/litre mileage are going viral. But the company has made it clear that these claims are completely false. Tata Motors has dismissed the news of its entry into the two-wheeler segment as ‘untrue’. Experts say that these fake campaigns have been created to defraud people, in which attempts are being made to make fake bookings or extort money.
The Truth About Viral Hoaxes: What’s Happening?
In the last one week, several posts went viral on social media, claiming that Tata Motors is launching a 125cc or electric bike in 2025. Chief among these:
Motorcycle worth Rs 59,000: Videos on Instagram and Facebook said that Tata’s new bike will give 95 km/litre mileage and will be available for only Rs 59,000. Fact-check found that these are based on old photographs and edited images. ‘Super cheap’ bike of Rs 18,000: 24 hours ago, a viral reel claimed that Tata bike is being sold for Rs 18,000. The company termed it a ‘scam’. False launch of electric scooter: In March 2025, a viral post claimed an electric bike worth Rs 3,249, which proved to be completely false.
“We consider any reports of entry into the two-wheeler market to be untrue. These rumors are likely to mislead consumers,” a Tata Motors spokesperson said in a statement to LatestLY. The company has also issued a warning on the official website that no new bike is being launched.
New method of cheating: How is the profit being made?
According to cyber experts, these fake news are the weapon of scammers. People get excited and make bookings on fake websites, where bank details are asked in the name of depositing money. Last month alone, more than 50 such cases were registered in which there was loss worth lakhs of rupees. Fact-checking videos on Reddit and YouTube (like ‘Finally TaTa 110cc – 125cc Bike Launch -fake or Real?’) garnered millions of views, clearly stating that the claims are copies of older Chinese bikes.
Industry analysts believe that Tata Motors is focusing on electric vehicles, like Nexon EV, but has no plans in two-wheelers yet. “These viral posts are marketing tricks to spread rumors of a real launch,” Zigwheels reported.
