New Delhi, November 7 (IANS). Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Friday that there is no shortage of medicines and consumables in government hospitals. He termed the allegations made in media reports as baseless.

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh reviewed the availability of medicines in government health centers and declared that the media reports were aimed at creating undue fear among the public.

After review, medical superintendents of hospitals, including Mangolpuri-based Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, confirmed that there is no shortage of essential medicines.

A detailed report was submitted by Lok Nayak Hospital and Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, detailing the status of all the medicines mentioned in the article.

Information received from Lok Nayak Hospital said, “This report is factually incorrect and misleading. It is submitted that as per the approved medicine list of Delhi Government, all essential and life saving medicines are adequately available in the hospital.”

“It appears that the allegations of shortage have been made without verifying the actual ground situation. Furthermore, to ensure uninterrupted patient care, a robust supply chain mechanism is in place, under which the daily stock position is monitored, and if any shortage is found, the same is immediately replenished through an approved procurement process,” the report said.

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said, “The published report is baseless and is creating unnecessary fear among the people. Medicines are an essential need, hence the media should refrain from making such unconfirmed claims and spreading panic among the public. The Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta-led government is committed to providing uninterrupted free medicines and quality healthcare to all citizens in its hospitals.”

Reports from government hospitals also said that some specific items like injection Linezolid and syrup Ipravent are not available as they are not part of the Essential Medicines List (EDL). Suitable substitutes are available in hospital stock and are being distributed to patients.
