The need for equal and fair representation of women in Indian politics has come a long way by advocating for their rights within the country. Time and again, these are those brave and powerful women who paved the way for entry into politics by fighting against gender discrimination (equality between men and women). As India is ready for its upcoming elections. Let’s take a look at ten boundary-breaking women who are India’s most influential political figures.

1. Sonia Gandhi- Sonia Gandhi’s tenure as Congress President is the longest.
Was. A member of the prestigious lineage of the Nehru-Gandhi family, this dynamic woman leader entered politics in 1998. In 2006, he formed the United Progressive Alliance. In 2017, she retired from the post of Congress President after handing over her responsibility to her son Rahul Gandhi.

3. Pratibha Patil- In 1962, Pratibha Patil joined politics as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. His cordial terms with the Gandhi family enabled him to assume the responsibility of the presidency in 2006. She served as the 12th President of India from 2007 to 2012 and has been vocal in her support of women’s empowerment.

4. Sheila Dikshit- Sheila Dikshit’s father-in-law Umashankar Dikshit, along with being a Union Minister, was a close associate of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Indira Gandhi saw Sheila’s political ability and passion when she was working alongside her father. She eventually became the longest serving Chief Minister of Delhi. This politician has criticized the society in India regarding adequate protection of freedom and dignity of women.

5.Mamata Banerjee- Mamta Banerjee, popularly known as ‘Didi’, started her political career long ago. In 1997 he founded the Trinamool Congress Party, which became the most powerful opposition in Bengal. In 2011, she became the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal, ending the 34-year rule of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Mamata recently expressed pride in the Trinamool Congress for having 35 per cent seats for women in which 50 per cent seats were reserved in local bodies.

6. Vasundhara Raje Scindia- This warrior’s parents were politicians. So perhaps it would be fate that he also chose the same field for his debut. She served as the first woman Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 2013 to 2018. Vasundhara received the title of “Chief Minister of the Year” in 2018 for her outstanding contribution in the field of information technology and e-governance. Women S.T.E.M. 7. Sushma Swaraj- Sushma Swaraj was involved in politics since her graduation. She became a Janata Party cabinet minister at the age of just 25 and was the second woman to hold the post after Indira Gandhi. This charismatic leader refers to herself as an activist rather than a politician.

10. Vrinda Karat- Vrinda Karat left her job in the Air Force to join the controversial world of politics. He started active politics during his education in Calcutta University. In 2005, it was CPI in Rajya Sabha. (M) was elected representative. In the same year, she became the first woman member of the CPI(M) Politburo, the most powerful decision-making body of the party.
