New Delhi . The Union Ministry of AYUSH is continuously taking commendable steps to take the level of medicine forward and now the Ministry has approved the proposal to open a total of 108 labs for quality testing of Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani medicines. While sharing the information, AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav said that 108 labs will be licensed under the provisions of the Drug Rules, 1945. Apart from opening new labs, 34 State Drug Testing Laboratories have been supported to strengthen the infrastructure and their working capacity. Three Regional Research Institutions of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences have also been approved under Rule 160E of the Drugs Rules 1945.
AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav said in his statement that “Pharmacovigilance program for Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy medicines has been implemented under the Central Sector Scheme and AYUSH Medicine Quality and Production Promotion Scheme, which will work through National Pharmacovigilance Centre, 5 Intermediate Pharmacovigilance Centers and 97 Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centers established across the country.
He said, “These centers have also been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring the misleading advertisements and reporting the same to the concerned state regulatory authorities, so that strictest action can be taken against those spreading misleading information regarding medicines. So far, 3,533 awareness programs have been organized across the country.”
Even before this, AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav had aimed to include Ayurveda in the health education curriculum in schools and colleges to increase the promotion and spread of Ayurveda and bring awareness. Taking this work forward, a course module is being prepared and soon it will also be made mandatory.
