Chandigarh. Haryana Legislative Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan has taken a new initiative to make the financial and subject committees of the Legislative Assembly more effective. He is going to establish a special center to make the members involved in the committees aware of the nuances of parliamentary functioning and to provide them with research-based material. He gave this information in a meeting held with the chairmen of the committees held at Haryana Niwas, Sector 3, late on Monday evening. Extensive discussions were held in the meeting to make the committees more effective, result oriented and accountable. Vice President Harvinder Kalyan expressed confidence that through the special center established by the Haryana Legislative Assembly Secretariat, there will be significant improvement in the efficiency, quality and accountability of the committees and the committees will be able to work more effectively. He laid emphasis on making the functioning of the committees more systematic, research based and modern. He said that committees are an important means of ensuring accountability in a democratic system and there is a need to make their work more effective.
