Bhuj. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the Center has started expediting the work on border fencing in West Bengal. The state BJP government has given in-principle approval for the transfer of land required for this project. While talking to BSF (Border Security Force) personnel at Border Outpost G7 in Bhuj, Gujarat, Union Home Minister Shah described the incomplete fencing on the India-Bangladesh border in Bengal as one of the biggest weaknesses of India’s border security system. Amit Shah said that the biggest weakness in our security system was the incomplete border fencing in Bengal.
He said that in some places geographical challenges could not be changed, but fencing work remained incomplete even in areas where land was available. We cannot change the geographical conditions, but even where fencing could have been built on the available land, we had not yet got the land.
Referring to the recent political changes in the state, Home Minister Shah said that the new BJP government in West Bengal has worked rapidly on this issue after assuming power.
He said that just a few days ago, with the blessings of the people of Bengal, the BJP government was formed there in a completely democratic manner and within a week the Chief Minister gave in-principle approval to give all the land required for fencing.
According to him, the work of transferring some parts of the land has already started.
The Home Minister said that once this fencing is completed, we will be able to stop infiltration on a large scale.
He said that when the physical fencing is completed, only forests, rivers and drains will be left as such areas which may be at risk of infiltration, and the government is also working on a technical fencing system for such areas.
He said that then only forests, rivers and drains will be left as possible routes, and we are working very fast on technical fencing for those areas also.
The Home Minister said the government is combining technology-based surveillance systems along with traditional border management to strengthen security along both the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders.
During this conversation, Home Minister Amit Shah also told about the Centre’s ‘Smart Border Security Project’, which includes the use of drones, radar, watch towers and other modern surveillance systems.
