Guwahati . Three candidates from Assam, Jogen Mohan, Terash Gowalla and Pramod Boro, filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday.
These nomination papers were submitted to the office of the Returning Officer in the Assam Assembly complex. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was also present at the time of nomination. Of the three candidates, Jogen Mohan and Terash Gowala have been fielded by the BJP, while Pramod Boro is the alliance candidate.
Elections are being held for three Rajya Sabha seats in Assam. With the filing of nominations, the formal process of elections has started.
Speaking to reporters after the nomination, Sarbananda Sonowal said that these three candidates represent strong and important communities of Assam. He said that the three leaders have been serving the public for a long time and have been working for the people of the state.
Sonowal also said that these leaders represent different regions of Assam like Barak Valley, Brahmaputra Valley and hilly areas.
He expressed confidence that these three leaders will strongly raise the issues related to Assam in the Parliament.
Congratulating the candidates, the Union Minister said that together these three will represent the BJP and UPPL alliance in the Rajya Sabha and strengthen the voice of Assam at the national level.
The ruling coalition in Assam has sufficient numerical strength in the Assembly, hence it is believed that it can win all three Rajya Sabha seats.
These elections are being held to fill the places of those members of Rajya Sabha whose tenure is ending.
If necessary, voting will be done by the members of the Assam Assembly as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission.
